The following is a selection of notable calls and incidents handled by the Cheektowaga Police Department during the past week.

As always, these patrol briefings do not represent every call for service. Routine traffic stops, alarms, minor disputes and other lower-priority calls have been omitted so we can focus on incidents of greater public interest.

๐Ÿ”ด NARCOTICS ARREST AFTER MAN REPORTED SLUMPED BEHIND WHEEL

On August 10, officers responded to a parking lot on Dick Road after a caller reported a man appeared to be slumped behind the wheel of a running vehicle.

Officers located the vehicle and confirmed the man was breathing. The patrol log indicates the individual was subsequently taken into custody, the vehicle was towed and an arrest report was filed.

๐Ÿšจ SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

During the early morning hours of August 11, Cheektowaga Police responded to ECMC after receiving a report that an individual had allegedly been sexually assaulted by someone known to them.

Evidence was subsequently transported to the CPS laboratory and an investigative report was filed.

Due to the nature of this incident, no identifying information regarding the victim is being published.

๐Ÿšจ LARGE FIGHT INVOLVING APPROXIMATELY 15 PEOPLE

Shortly after midnight August 12, police received a 911 call reporting approximately 15 people physically fighting, with several reportedly wearing ski masks.

Multiple vehicles were also reported at the scene.

Responding officers reported that the involved parties had left.

๐Ÿš” SUSPECTED VEHICLE BREAK-IN ACTIVITY

Cheektowaga Police investigated multiple reports of possible vehicle break-ins during the week.

During the early morning hours of August 10, police received a report of a white SUV with individuals allegedly checking vehicles.

Another report on August 13 involved a woman in a black hoodie allegedly attempting to enter vehicles. Officers located an individual, but the patrol report states she had no property in her possession and was advised to go home for the night.

๐Ÿš— DWI ARREST

During the early morning hours of August 15, officers investigated a suspected drunk-driving incident.

Field sobriety testing was conducted and the patrol report indicates one person was taken into custody for DWI. The vehicle was towed and an arrest report was filed.

๐Ÿ’ฅ DWI INVESTIGATION AFTER VEHICLE STRIKES FENCE AND UTILITY POLE

Also on August 15, officers investigated a crash in which a vehicle reportedly struck a fence and utility pole.

Police noted heavy front-end damage and airbag deployment. Officers expressed concern that the damaged utility pole could potentially fall, prompting notification of NYSEG.

The patrol log indicates one person was subsequently taken into custody during a DWI investigation, with DWI and Miranda warnings administered.

๐Ÿš” RECOVERED VEHICLE RESULTS IN ARREST

Just after midnight August 16, Cheektowaga Police located a vehicle listed as UUMV โ€“ Recovered in the Broadway area.

The vehicle was towed, and the patrol log indicates one person was taken into custody and an arrest report was filed.

๐Ÿš‘ INJURY CRASH IN DRIVE-THRU

During the early morning hours of August 16, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in a drive-thru.

One person reported back and neck pain. AMR responded, and the patrol report indicates an arrest was ultimately made in connection with the investigation.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ LANDSCAPING EQUIPMENT STOLEN

A landscaping business reported that equipment was stolen from an open trailer sometime overnight between August 10 and August 11.

Reported stolen were two backpack leaf blowers and a hedge trimmer, with a combined reported value of approximately $1,650.

No surveillance footage was reportedly available, and a police report was filed.

๐Ÿš“ WARRANT ARRESTS

Cheektowaga Police handled multiple warrant-related arrests during the week, including individuals transferred or picked up with assistance from other area law-enforcement agencies.

One August 11 case involved Cheektowaga officers meeting Hamburg Police regarding an individual wanted on a Cheektowaga arrest warrant.

In another incident that evening, officers reported making a summary arrest on felony charges for Amherst.

๐Ÿ• LOOSE DOG SAFELY REUNITED

Police received an animal complaint on August 15 involving a German Shepherd running loose in a neighborhood.

Thankfully, the patrol log notes the dog was reunited with its owner. ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ˜‚ YES, THAT REALLY HAPPENEDโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ“บ THE GREAT UNPLUGGED TV DISPUTE

Police responded to a family dispute on August 13 after a man reportedly became irate because his son unplugged his television.

Officers strongly advised both parties.

And, perhaps most importantlyโ€ฆ

The TV was plugged back in. ๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ’ฟ โ€œBUT I WANT MY NEW CD!โ€

On August 12, police received a disturbance call involving an individual who was reportedly upset because he couldn’t order his new CD until August 30.

An officer spoke with him and suggested that he mark the days off on a calendar until he could get the CD.

According to the patrol logโ€ฆ

He was happy with that solution. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ• PIT BULL IN THE INTERSECTION

Also August 12, police received a report of a white pit bull wandering in an intersection.

Before this could turn into a canine traffic-control assignment, the dog’s owner arrived and retrieved it. ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ“ฑ THE โ€œSTOLENโ€ iPHONE

During the early morning hours of August 15, a caller initially believed a vehicle and cellphone were missing.

Police ultimately located the vehicle in the parking lot.

And the missing iPhone?

It was between the seats of the vehicle. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฑ
