The following is a summary of selected calls handled by the Cheektowaga Police Department during the past week. These are only highlights from the department’s much larger daily blotter reports.

🔴 SHOTS FIRED — HOME STRUCK BY GUNFIRE

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, August 9, Cheektowaga Police received multiple reports of approximately four to six gunshots in the Alpine Place area.

During the investigation, officers located a bullet inside a residence, additional apparent bullet holes, three spent casings and a loose handgun round. A witness reported seeing three people dressed in black running toward Buffalo through yards around the time of the shooting. A police report was filed and the incident remained under investigation according to the blotter.

🔫 WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION DISCOVERED

On August 5, Cheektowaga Police responded to assist Erie County Probation after weapons and ammunition were reportedly discovered inside a residence. The incident was documented as a weapons offense.

🚨 MULTIPLE DWI ARRESTS

During the early morning hours of August 5, officers conducted a drunk-driving investigation on the Kensington Expressway. A driver reportedly produced a positive preliminary breath test and was taken into custody. Police documented a DWI warning and an arrest.

Another DWI arrest occurred during the early morning hours of August 7. Police reported taking the driver into custody and later documented that the driver refused to provide a breath sample.

Later that same day, officers were called for a man reportedly passed out behind the wheel of a van. The vehicle was reportedly still in drive when officers arrived. A DWI investigation followed, and the driver was taken into custody.

🚔 DOMESTIC INCIDENT — CHOKING AND ASSAULT REPORTED

On August 9, police investigated a domestic incident in which a woman reported that her boyfriend spit in her face, choked her and slapped her before leaving in a vehicle. Police documented that a warrant was applied for and a domestic incident report was filed.

🚓 ORDER OF PROTECTION VIOLATION ARREST

During the early morning hours of August 6, officers responded to a report of several people physically fighting in the street.

Police determined that a complete stay-away order of protection was in effect. A woman was subsequently taken into custody, and police documented one arrest and a domestic incident report.

🚨 MULTIPLE WARRANT ARRESTS

Police handled several warrant arrests throughout the week.

On August 4, a traffic stop led officers to a person wanted on a Cheektowaga warrant. The individual was taken into custody.

On August 5, a man walked into Cheektowaga Police Headquarters and turned himself in on four separate Cheektowaga warrants.

Another woman turned herself in on a Cheektowaga warrant that morning, while officers later met Buffalo Police near Broadway and Bailey to take custody of another person wanted on a Cheektowaga warrant.

On August 9, officers serving another Cheektowaga warrant reported taking one person into custody.

💵 $770 REPORTED STOLEN FROM HOTEL ROOM

On August 3, a hotel guest reported that she had allowed two people to stay in her room several days earlier and later discovered $770 missing from her purse. A police report was filed.

🚙 VEHICLE BREAK-INS REPORTED

Police investigated several vehicle-related theft complaints during the week.

On August 3, a resident reported that someone entered his vehicle overnight and stole his wallet. A police report was filed.

Another resident reported that her vehicle had been gone through and that change and sunglasses were missing. She declined a formal report but requested the incident be documented.

🛴 CHILD’S SCOOTER STOLEN

On August 4, police received a report that a child had been pushed off his scooter before two teenagers took it and fled. The child was reported uninjured. Officers checked the surrounding area, and a police report was filed.

🏨 STOLEN iPAD INVESTIGATION

On August 5, a woman contacted police regarding a stolen iPad at a Genesee Street hotel. The device was reportedly pinging in the hotel’s laundry area, and management began checking to determine whether it may have accidentally been collected with linens.

👮 CRIMINAL MISCHIEF ARREST

During the early morning hours of August 6, Cheektowaga Police documented one arrest in connection with a criminal mischief complaint.

👤 MISSING PERSON LOCATED

Early August 8, Cheektowaga officers encountered a vehicle associated with a missing-person investigation originating outside the town. Officers stopped the vehicle and confirmed the driver was the missing person. The originating agency was contacted and advised it would cancel the missing-person entry.

🌊 FLOODING REPORTED AT UNDERPASS

Heavy water was reported beneath the Union Road railroad underpass on August 8. Officers checked the area and later reported that the roadway remained passable.

🤔 YES, THAT REALLY HAPPENED…

☕ “Where Can I Get Coffee?”… And Then Things Got Weird

On August 3, the police administrative line received what officers themselves documented as an “odd” and “strange” call from an out-of-state woman.

The caller initially wanted information about coffee shops and other things in Cheektowaga, but the conversation reportedly became increasingly bizarre and included a disturbing statement that dispatchers couldn’t clearly interpret.

Cheektowaga Police contacted authorities where the caller lived and requested a welfare check. Local dispatchers there reportedly told CPD that the woman was known to make unusual calls.

🦝 About That “Deceased Dog”…

Police were dispatched August 3 after someone reported a deceased dog near Genesee Street.

Officers checked the area.

No dog.

What they did find was apparently half of a raccoon.

Well… somebody was half right. 🤦‍♂️🦝

😩 “I Just Don’t Want To Work Anymore”

On August 4, police were asked to conduct a welfare check after a man hadn’t shown up for work in four days, something his employer considered highly unusual.

Police made contact.

His explanation?

He reportedly told officers he “just doesn’t want to work anymore” and was disgruntled after working 12 days straight.

Officers advised him to contact one of his managers. 😅
