Cheektowaga Police responded to 1,218 calls for service throughout the Airport, French, Harlem, Midtown and William patrol districts during this reporting period. Daily complaint totals ranged from 151 to 193 calls.

Below are several notable incidents selected from the department’s daily patrol reports. Personal identifying information, exact residential addresses, license plates and vehicle identification numbers have been withheld.

🔴 Arrests, DWI Investigations and Serious Incidents

Monday, July 13

Two overnight arrests: Officers conducting a narcotics-related investigation on Genesee Street detained an individual, had a vehicle towed and later reported one arrest. A separate suspected drunk-driving investigation on Glidden Street resulted in another person being taken into custody and the involved vehicle being towed.

Stolen pickup truck recovered: Police located a GMC Sierra that had previously been reported stolen. The vehicle was secured and the registered owner was contacted.

Suspicious package at the Walden Galleria: Officers investigated a white-and-red box containing wires, a thermostat and several containers of water in a parking ramp. A construction company confirmed that the equipment belonged to them.

Tuesday, July 14

Driver reportedly passed out in the roadway: Officers responded to St. Marys Street after a man was reportedly unconscious inside a vehicle in the roadway. Police conducted field testing, took the driver into custody during a DWI investigation and had the vehicle towed.

Intoxicated individual assisted home: Officers located a man lying on the ground who reportedly had consumed too much alcohol. Police transported him safely home rather than leaving him vulnerable outside.

Wednesday, July 15

Two arrests during narcotics investigation: Officers stopped a vehicle on the Kensington Expressway during a narcotics investigation. A woman and man were taken into custody, the vehicle was towed and police reported two arrests.

Traffic stop leads to arrest: Another overnight traffic enforcement investigation on Walden Avenue resulted in one person being taken into custody and the vehicle being towed.

Mental-health intervention: Police responded to a welfare concern involving an individual who had reportedly been making preparations for someone else to care for his dog. Medical assistance was requested, and officers accompanied the individual to ECMC for an emergency mental-health evaluation.

Two-vehicle injury crash: Police, AMR and U-Crest firefighters responded to an injury collision near Dick Road and Harris Court. Both vehicles required towing, and the police accident report indicates those involved were released at the scene.

Thursday, July 16

Unlicensed-operation arrest: An overnight traffic stop on Genesee Street resulted in a person being taken into custody for an alleged aggravated unlicensed-operation offense. Police reported one arrest.

Crisis call involving a teenager: Officers and AMR responded after a 16-year-old contacted 911 while experiencing a mental-health crisis. Police determined the teenager did not meet the criteria for an involuntary transport, and the parents agreed to help arrange counseling. Due to the sensitive nature of this incident, additional information is being withheld.

Friday, July 17

DWI arrest following high-speed driving: Officers stopped a vehicle near Walden Avenue after observing it traveling at a high rate of speed. Following field testing, one person was taken into custody during a drunk-driving investigation and the vehicle was towed.

Saturday, July 18

Domestic incident leads to arrest: Police responded to a disturbance on Union Road after a caller reported an argument and broken glass. Officers took one person into custody for alleged criminal mischief and filed an arrest report.

Individuals reportedly checking vehicles: A resident reported seeing a man and woman checking parked vehicles in a residential neighborhood before returning to a black sedan. Officers located the vehicle, investigated and advised those involved. Residents are again encouraged to remove valuables and lock their vehicles every night.

Sunday, July 19

Injury collision near Genesee Street and Transit Road: Police investigated a collision involving a BMW and pickup truck. One person reported back and leg pain and was transported to ECMC. One vehicle was towed, and an accident report was completed. No names are being released.

Two-year-old child located outside: Officers responded after a two-year-old girl wearing only a diaper was reportedly seen alone outside. The child returned toward a nearby residence as police investigated the circumstances.

Traffic stop leads to arrest: An Eggert Road traffic stop resulted in a woman being arrested for an alleged aggravated unlicensed-operation offense. The vehicle was released to a valid driver.

🟡 Community and Animal-Related Calls

Loose dog safely transported: On Monday morning, officers located a small dog running through a parking lot. The dog was transported to the town kennel and a health-assessment form was completed.

Two loose dogs found near Genesee Street: Early Saturday morning, a resident reported finding two dogs and safely holding them near a local funeral home while waiting for assistance.

😅 Yes, That Really Happened

A suspicious package from… Temu: A resident contacted police after receiving a package they believed appeared suspicious. Officers inspected it and determined that it appeared to be promotional material from Temu. Mystery solved, international incident avoided. 📦

Not every suspicious dental patient is plotting something: Police were called about an “odd” individual lingering outside a dentist’s office. Officers determined the man had simply finished getting his teeth cleaned and was waiting for his Uber. 🦷

Missing child found, then the family needed another rescue: Officers helped reunite a child with family members at a playground. Moments later, the family accidentally locked themselves out of their vehicle, requiring police assistance once again.
