PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA | Monday, November 2, 2026
💔 A promising young pilot whose passion for aviation began long before she graduated high school has been identified by her family as one of nine people killed in a devastating private jet crash in South Florida on Sunday afternoon.
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, of Boca Raton, Florida, was serving as co-pilot aboard a Learjet 60 traveling from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas when the aircraft crashed near South Military Trail in Palm Beach County.
The aircraft went down at approximately 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, near Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North in the Greenacres area.
All nine people aboard the aircraft were killed.
💔 A Young Life Dedicated to Aviation
According to reports from the New York Post and the Associated Press, Nathalia’s mother, Camila Corteleti, confirmed that her daughter was serving as co-pilot aboard the ill-fated flight.
Nathalia’s love for flying began at an exceptionally young age.
In 2023, while still attending West Boca Raton Community High School, she earned her private pilot’s license at just 17 years old through the school’s aviation program.
At an age when most teenagers were learning to drive, Nathalia was already learning to navigate the skies.
Her accomplishments reflected years of dedication, determination, and a passion for aviation that she hoped would become her lifelong career.
What should have been another flight in a promising aviation career instead ended in an unimaginable tragedy.
✈️ Federal Investigation Underway
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is investigating what caused the Learjet 60 to crash.
Early reports indicate the aircraft encountered turbulent weather conditions, with pilots reporting icing and precipitation before the crash.
However, investigators have not determined an official cause, and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain under investigation.
The crash caused a large fire and significant destruction near the roadway. Approximately 600 nearby residents were evacuated as emergency personnel responded to the scene.
Although Nathalia’s family has publicly confirmed her identity, authorities had not officially released the names of all nine victims as of Monday’s reporting.
🕊️ Remembering Nathalia
Behind every aviation tragedy are families, friends, and loved ones whose lives are forever changed.
Nathalia was more than a member of a flight crew. She was a daughter, a young woman with extraordinary determination, and someone who had already accomplished what many only dream of doing.
At just 20 years old, she had an entire future ahead of her.
Erie County Blotter extends its heartfelt condolences to Nathalia’s family, the families of the eight other victims, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
May all nine victims rest in peace, and may their loved ones find strength and comfort during the difficult days ahead.
We will continue to follow official findings as federal investigators work to determine what happened.
