September 26 through October 2, 2026

ERIE COUNTY, NY — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office handled 2,196 complaints during this reporting period, including 334 premises checks, 34 neighborhood patrols, 157 traffic stops, 219 calls assisting other agencies, and 21 warrants served. The weekly report was prepared by ECSO Public Information Officer Chris Horvatits.

Below are some of the more notable incidents reported across Erie County during the week.

🔴 Boston: Narcotics Arrest

On September 30, deputies encountered a vehicle partially blocking the Route 219 exit ramp near Boston State Road. After assisting the operator with moving the vehicle, deputies learned his license was revoked. During an inventory search, deputies reported finding a white powdery substance, broken glass pipe and scale.

A 45-year-old Buffalo man was charged with:

  • 4th Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • 2nd Degree Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia
  • 7th Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • 2nd Degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation

🔴 Grand Island: Multiple Vehicles Reported Stolen

Deputies investigated several vehicle-related crimes on Grand Island during the reporting period. A vehicle was reported stolen from West Park Road on September 28, and multiple vehicles were reported stolen overnight September 30 from the Stony Point Road and Sandpiper Lane areas. A wallet containing cash, a debit card and license was also reportedly stolen from a vehicle on Cardinal Lane.

🔥 Newstead/Akron: Barn Fire

On October 1, deputies responded to a fully involved barn fire on Hiller Road. The Newstead Fire Chief requested Erie County Sheriff’s Office fire investigators respond to the scene.

🚨 Clarence: Vehicle Crashes Into Building

On October 1, deputies responded after a vehicle crashed into a building at Bank Street and Main Street. The operator was transported by Twin City Ambulance to ECMC for treatment. The scene was turned over to the Crash Investigation Unit.

🛒 Clarence: Attempted Bills Jersey Theft

Deputies responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods on Transit Road September 26 for a reported shoplifting in progress. Staff told deputies two individuals were cutting security cables from Bills jerseys and placing them into a bag before fleeing when confronted.

A New York State Police trooper located two subjects nearby. A 28-year-old Buffalo man and 35-year-old Buffalo woman were each charged with 4th Degree Attempted Grand Larceny and 6th Degree Conspiracy.

🚗 Alden: Woman Injured in Parking Lot Incident

On September 27, a vehicle pulling into a parking space at the Tops parking lot struck the bumper of another parked vehicle. The impact caused that vehicle to rock backward and knock down a woman who was loading groceries. She reportedly sustained a wrist injury.

On October 2, an operator was ticketed for failing to yield while making a left turn following a two-vehicle property-damage crash at Wende Road and Walden Avenue.

🚔 Boston: Vehicles Entered

A Boston resident reported September 29 that an unknown person entered two unlocked vehicles during the early-morning hours. Spare change and the complainant’s driver’s license were reported stolen. Evidence indicated the incident occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m.

🚘 Clarence: Multiple Crashes

On September 28, a vehicle reportedly struck another vehicle while it was being fueled at a Kwik Fill before reversing and striking a third vehicle. Later that day, another crash occurred near Main Street and Sawmill Road when a vehicle attempting a U-turn struck another vehicle, which then left the roadway and struck multiple air-conditioning units attached to a building.

Deputies were also investigating an October 2 hit-and-run report involving a U-Haul vehicle and pickup truck in the Home Depot parking lot.

🚗 Grand Island: Injury Crash Near High School

On October 1, a vehicle exiting the Grand Island High School parking lot struck a vehicle traveling westbound on Ransom Road. The operator of the vehicle on Ransom Road suffered an arm injury, and the operator of the striking vehicle was ticketed.

🏹 Grand Island: Arrow Strikes Garage

A Pleasant Trail resident reported October 1 that an arrow traveled through a fence post and became lodged in the siding of his garage. Deputies completed a police report.

🎃 Grand Island: Pumpkin Theft

Tops employees reported October 2 that several pumpkins had been stolen. Security video reportedly confirmed the incident, and a jacket containing a debit card fell from the suspect’s vehicle.

Deputies contacted the cardholder, who agreed to turn himself in. A 23-year-old Grand Island man was charged with Petit Larceny.

🚙 Holland: Road-Rage Crash Investigation

Deputies investigated a two-vehicle crash September 26 near Olean and North Protection roads. The operators gave conflicting accounts, while a witness reportedly told deputies the collision resulted from road rage.

🚔 Marilla: Suspended License

Deputies stopped a speeding vehicle September 26 on Clinton Street. The investigation determined the operator was driving with a suspended license. A 41-year-old Barker man was charged with 3rd Degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and ticketed for speeding.

On October 2, a Four Rod Road resident reported that an unknown individual unsuccessfully attempted to enter a code at her back door. Nothing appeared disturbed or missing.

🛒 Springville: Walmart Larceny

Walmart employees reported September 30 that two known individuals left the store without paying for approximately $95 in merchandise. A 32-year-old Holland man and 37-year-old Springville woman were each charged with Petit Larceny.

🚘 Elma

Deputies investigated a September 26 crash near Bullis and Stolle roads after a vehicle reportedly misjudged the amount of time available to cross the intersection. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.

On September 29, deputies removed a box spring from the Route 400 on-ramp near Jamison Road.

🚔 Seneca Nation

On September 30, deputies investigated a road-rage complaint on Route 438 after one motorist stopped abruptly to avoid striking an animal. The drivers exchanged words, and one later alleged that the other vehicle struck his. Deputies reported there was no evidence the vehicles collided.

On October 2, deputies stopped a vehicle on Route 20 with an expired inspection and suspended registration. The operator’s license was also reportedly suspended. A 32-year-old Brockport man was charged with 3rd Degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and operating with a suspended registration.

🚓 Additional Activity

The Sheriff’s Office also reported traffic enforcement, property complaints, motorist assists, suspicious incidents and routine calls throughout Colden, Collins/Gowanda, Concord/Springville, Elma, Grand Island, Holland, Marilla, Newstead/Akron, North Collins, Sardinia, Wales and other patrol areas.
