CHEEKTOWAGA, NY — Cheektowaga Police handled 1,252 documented complaints and calls for service during the seven-day period covered by the department’s daily blotter reports.

The week included domestic incidents, arrests, welfare and behavioral-health checks, crashes, reckless-driving complaints, theft investigations, warrant service and several serious calls requiring coordinated police, fire and EMS responses.

🔴 Significant Incidents

• Driver reportedly clocked at more than 100 mph: Shortly after midnight Monday, officers encountered a vehicle traveling at a reported 100+ mph on Harlem Road. Police stopped the vehicle near Harlem and Walden, took one person into custody and filed a police report.

• Domestic incident involving firearms: Later Monday, officers responded to a domestic-trouble call after dispatchers were advised a male was allegedly going after family members and that loaded firearms were out in the open. The incident ultimately resulted in an arrest and a domestic incident report, according to the blotter.

• Domestic-related arrests: Several domestic calls during the week resulted in arrests. On Tuesday, officers responded to one report involving allegations that a woman had been pushed through a window. Another call that morning involved an ex who allegedly kicked in a door and was reportedly known to carry a knife or handgun. Arrests were documented in both incidents.

• Mental-health and crisis responses: Officers handled numerous behavioral-health and welfare calls throughout the week, often alongside Crisis Services and AMR. Early Thursday, police responded after receiving information that an individual had made statements about self-harm and may have had access to a shotgun. Officers later located the person, cleared the room and vehicle of weapons and documented that the individual did not meet the criteria for an involuntary mental-health transport.

• Workplace assault investigation: On Thursday, a woman reported that she had been attacked by multiple people at her workplace the previous night. The blotter states she reported a broken nose, bruising around an eye and other injuries. A police report was filed.

• Domestic assault arrest Friday: Police responded after a caller reported a woman screaming that she was being hurt. The victim subsequently reported being punched several times and bitten. Officers located a possible suspect and the blotter records one arrest.

• Garage fire investigated: Also Friday, police and fire personnel responded after an attached garage was reportedly set on fire overnight. The fire had already been extinguished when the complaint was made, and the matter was forwarded for detective investigation.

• High-speed vehicle with lights off: Early Saturday, officers attempted to locate a black sedan reported running a red light and traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was reported with its lights off as it moved through the Harlem, Walden and Pine Ridge area. Officers lost sight of it, and the blotter ultimately records the vehicle as unable to be located.

• Large fight and weapon-related call: Saturday morning included a report of approximately ten people physically fighting outside a bar, along with a separate domestic-related call involving a reported knife. Officers also handled a behavioral-health incident in which Crisis Services reported concerning threats involving family members.

• Missing senior located: On Sunday, police received a report involving an 81-year-old man with dementia who had walked away from home. Information in the blotter indicated Lancaster authorities had located him and were returning him safely.

• Halloween decorations vandalized: Early Sunday, a passerby reported seeing three teenagers exit a vehicle and damage Halloween inflatables on a resident’s lawn before leaving the area. Police checked for the vehicle but were unable to locate it.

📊 The Week by the Numbers

Among the 1,252 complaints, the blotters included approximately 325 traffic stops, 52 welfare checks, 47 burglary alarms later classified as false alarms, 40 property-damage crashes, 35 warrant-service complaints, 27 domestic-trouble calls, 25 shoplifting complaints, 24 larceny complaints, 20 reckless-operation complaints, 20 mental-health calls, 19 behavioral-health follow-ups and 15 injury crashes.

Those classifications reflect how the individual complaints were recorded in the department blotters and do not mean every call resulted in an arrest or criminal charge.

Police also investigated multiple sensitive sex-offense and child-abuse-related reports during the week. Erie County Blotter is intentionally withholding additional details involving juveniles and alleged victims.
