The Cheektowaga Police Department recorded 1,360 total complaints during the seven-day reporting period.

Below are some of the more significant incidents reported during the week. Exact residential addresses have been removed.

🔴 WEAPONS, NARCOTICS & SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS

🔹 Three Arrested Following Traffic Stop:
On August 22, officers conducted a traffic stop in the Walden Avenue area involving a vehicle occupied by three people. All three were ultimately taken into custody in connection with NYS Penal Law 220.03. Police also reported locating two handgun receivers in the vehicle. Three arrests were filed.

🔹 Subject With Knife Arrested:
During the early morning hours of August 20, police responded to the Genesee Street area for a report of a male with a knife during a dispute involving allegedly stolen property. One person was arrested and a police report was filed.

🔹 Two Arrested During Narcotics Investigation:
Early August 23, officers encountered two individuals on bicycles in the Shanley Street area. Police reported both were taken into custody in connection with NYS Penal Law 220.05. One of the individuals was also reported to have outstanding warrants. Two arrests were filed.

🔹 Two Arrested in Narcotics Case:
During the early morning hours of August 19, a narcotics investigation in the Doat Street area resulted in two people being taken to police headquarters. Police reported two arrests.

🟣 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE & ASSAULT INVESTIGATIONS

🔹 Domestic Incident Results in Arrest:
On August 20, police responded after a woman reported that a male had allegedly kicked in her door, choked her and punched her in the face. EMS was requested. One person was detained and later arrested, with a Domestic Incident Report filed.

🔹 Woman Transported to ECMC Following Assault:
On August 23, police investigated a domestic incident after a woman reported being struck in the back of the head. An ambulance was requested, and she was later transported to ECMC. Police reported one person was taken into custody and arrested for assault, with a Domestic Incident Report filed.

🔹 Arrest Following Domestic Dispute:
On August 21, officers responded to a reported domestic incident in which a male was accused of punching a woman in the face during an argument involving their child. One person was taken into custody and an arrest and Domestic Incident Report were filed.

🏢 COMMERCIAL BURGLARY INVESTIGATION

🔹 Pharmacy and Chiropractic Office Burglarized:
Cheektowaga Police investigated a significant commercial burglary early August 22 in the Harlem Road area.

According to the blotter, surveillance reportedly showed a male entering a pharmacy through the ceiling. Officers found the front-door glass smashed, and police subsequently determined that a nearby chiropractic office had also been broken into.

Crime Scene Investigators responded and the case was documented for further investigation.

🚗 SERIOUS CRASHES & DWI ENFORCEMENT

🔹 Bicyclist Transported to ECMC
On August 18, emergency crews responded to the Ludwig Avenue and Dowmer Place area for a crash involving a bicyclist and a vehicle. The bicyclist was transported to ECMC and a crash report was filed.

🔹 Serious Two-Vehicle Crash
On August 21, police responded to a two-vehicle injury crash in the French Road area. Two ambulances were requested after one person was reported to be going in and out of consciousness. Both vehicles were towed. The blotter later notes that DWI and Miranda warnings were administered during the investigation.

🔹 Three-Vehicle Injury Crash
On August 19, officers responded to a three-vehicle crash in which the initial report indicated one person was unresponsive. Officers later reported everyone was conscious, with possible entrapment and multiple ambulances responding.

🔹 Multiple DWI Arrests
Cheektowaga Police continued DWI enforcement throughout the week. Two separate drunk-driving investigations during the early morning hours of August 18 resulted in arrests. Additional DWI arrests were documented during the early morning hours of August 22 and August 23.

🔥 COMMERCIAL FIRE RESPONSE

During the early morning hours of August 22, police and fire personnel responded to a commercial property on French Road following reports of heavy smoke inside a truck bay, possibly originating from an engine. Multiple emergency personnel responded and police assisted with possible roadway closures while fire crews handled the incident.

🐾 ANIMAL WELFARE CALLS

Cheektowaga Police also handled several animal-related complaints during the week.

🔹 On August 17, police received a complaint regarding a dog reportedly left outside crying for much of the day. Dog Control was notified.

🔹 On August 18, police received a report regarding a dog inside a hot vehicle, and the matter was addressed.

🔹 On August 21, a caller reported a dog inside a vehicle at the Walden Galleria with a window only partially open. The Dog Warden was notified and responded to investigate.

🔹 Another vehicle-related dog complaint was reported at the Galleria on August 22. Dog Control responded and determined the dog was not in distress and the situation was not critical.
