The Cheektowaga Police Department remained extremely active throughout the week, responding to hundreds of calls ranging from routine traffic enforcement to serious criminal investigations, impaired driving arrests, welfare checks, family disputes, narcotics activity, warrant arrests, and numerous quality of life complaints. Officers also continued proactive patrols, resulting in multiple arrests and increased police visibility throughout the town.

🚨 Significant Incidents

🚓 Multiple DWI Arrests

Officers arrested several impaired drivers during the week after observing dangerous driving behaviors. In each case, vehicles were towed and drivers were taken into custody pending further processing.

These proactive enforcement efforts continue to remove impaired drivers from local roadways before serious crashes occur.

🚔 Warrant Arrests

Officers successfully located and arrested multiple individuals wanted on outstanding warrants, including Buffalo and Cheektowaga warrants. These arrests occurred during proactive patrol operations and warrant investigations.

💊 Narcotics Investigation

A proactive narcotics investigation on Griswold Street resulted in two arrests and the seizure of a vehicle believed connected to the investigation.

🧠 Mental Health & Crisis Calls

Officers responded to several emotionally charged mental health incidents throughout the week, including:

• Suicidal statements
• Welfare checks
• Behavioral health crises
• Individuals requesting assistance

In one incident, officers coordinated with EMS before transporting an individual to ECMC for evaluation.

👧 Missing & Runaway Juveniles

Officers investigated several runaway juvenile incidents during the week. Through coordinated investigative work, juveniles were safely located and reunited with their families.

🏠 Domestic & Family Incidents

Numerous domestic disputes, family offenses and neighborhood conflicts required police intervention. Fortunately, many situations were resolved peacefully without criminal charges after officers de-escalated the incidents.

🛒 Shoplifting & Larcenies

Officers responded to multiple retail thefts throughout the week involving convenience stores, retail businesses, and grocery stores. Several suspects fled prior to officer arrival while other investigations remain active.

🚗 Traffic Enforcement

Traffic enforcement remained a major focus throughout the week with dozens of vehicle stops leading to:

• Equipment violations
• Suspended registrations
• Expired inspections
• Unsafe operation
• Numerous traffic citations and warnings

Officers maintained a highly visible presence throughout Cheektowaga’s busiest roadways.

❤️ Community Assistance

Not every call involved criminal activity. Officers also assisted residents with:

• Welfare checks
• Medical emergencies
• Motorists with disabled vehicles
• Lost property
• Elderly and disabled residents needing assistance
• Noise complaints
• Neighborhood disputes
• Animal-related calls

One particularly heartwarming call involved officers helping a wheelchair-bound resident move groceries from the front porch into the home after a delivery.

😄 Yes…That Really Happened

Every week reminds us policing isn’t always car chases and arrests.

This week’s memorable calls included:

• Four teens repeatedly returning to a convenience store looking for more snacks after an earlier shoplifting complaint.
• A stranded motorist whose “breakdown” turned out to be a muffler falling completely off the vehicle.
• A child accidentally locking himself inside his mother’s bedroom, leading to officers helping reunite him safely with family.
• A highly intoxicated woman found outside singing in her yard in the middle of the night.
• Officers responding to complaints of noisy kids, only to politely send everyone home for the evening.
• A man sleeping under a tree who simply stopped to rest and was found to be perfectly okay.
• A neighbor reporting loud refrigerator-moving noises at nearly 2:00 a.m.
