Sunday 3/14/21: Total Complaints = 67
- Patrols responded to 6 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrol responded to 3 Alarm Ringing calls.
- Police responded to 3 Domestic Disturbances.
- Officers performed 3 Welfare Checks.
- A 26-year-old West Seneca man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, following a traffic stop. Officers observed the vehicle swerve over the double yellow line on Clinton St. several times, before making a wide right turn onto South Rossler Ave., crossing into the oncoming lane. The operator had glassy eyes, slurred speech, and impaired coordination, failed field sobriety tests, but tested negative for alcohol. He was charged with felony DWAI by Drugs (due to having a prior conviction) along with several traffic infractions. He was unable to have a sober adult pick him up, so he was held on our cell block until he was sober and could be released.
- Patrols observed a drone flying around the area of Occhino Paving on Seneca St. We canvassed the area, but did not locate the operator of the drone or any other suspicious activity.
- WSPD received notification of a burglar alarm at the Laundry Lounge on Ridge Rd. Arriving officers found several windows smashed, rocks and a desk drawer open inside the office. Investigation continues.
- Police received a call about a suspicious vehicle parked at the dead end of Stephenson St. with its lights on. The driver had fallen asleep. He was awakened by patrols and made his way into his house.
- The manager of TOPS Express at Orchard Park Rd. and Slade Ave. reported unknown suspect(s) attempted to break into the business overnight. A couple of windows had scratches in them. The suspect(s) also cut an internet cable and shut off the breakers for the refrigeration coolers, located at the back of the store. Video surveillance from the store is under review.
- An unknown white male suspect wearing mismatched shoes shoplifted over $225 in merchandise from Big Lots. When confronted by employees, he got into a dark-colored sedan and fled.
Monday 3/15/21: Total Complaints = 79
- Patrol responded to 10 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrols responded to 1 Alarm Ringing call.
- Police responded to 2 Domestic Disturbances.
- Officers performed 5 Welfare Checks.
- A Delray Ave. resident reported there was a suspicious vehicle parked in his driveway, with four males inside of it. One of the males turned out to be the complainant’s son.
- A 42-year-old Buffalo man was arrested, following a traffic stop on Potters Rd. Officers observed a vehicle turn without signaling. The driver told them his license was suspended, which it was. He was issued citations for the turn signal and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree, released, and picked up by a friend.
- Police responded to a Mineral Springs Rd. address, where an intoxicated female was reportedly causing a disturbance. The female wanted to leave, but her family members wouldn’t let her drive. She began having a panic attack, and became irate and uncooperative. She was taken to the hospital for detox.
- The owner of Jay’s Service Center on Potters Rd. reported unknown suspect(s) stole one of the business’ security cameras, and also broke a window on one of the vehicles parked on the lot.
- Employees of Edbauer Construction on Clinton St. reported unknown suspect(s) cut the catalytic converters off of four of their work trucks.
- Patrols responded to a disturbance at Paula’s Donuts. A female was reported to be running around the store, cursing at customers. Managers stated the subject had been fired, and was causing a ruckus while cleaning out her locker. She left prior to officers’ arrival.
- A Fieldcrest Ct. resident reported unknown suspect(s) hacked her Facebook and email accounts, obtained a photo of her driver’s license and possibly her bank account information, and began sending spam Facebook messages to her friends, pretending to be her. She was advised to change her passwords and take steps with her bank to secure her accounts.
- Police were called to Fitness 19 on Harlem Rd. The manager reported a man was there refusing to wear a mask. His gym membership had been revoked over this, but he was still refusing to leave. He was advised by police that he is no longer welcome at the business, and ultimately, he left.
- Police and EMS responded to a three-car accident with injuries on Orchard Park Rd. One vehicle rear-ended another, causing a chain-reaction crash. The occupants of all three vehicle were evaluated and signed off. The driver of the striking vehicle was issued a citation for Following Too Closely.
Tuesday 3/16/21: Total Complaints = 88
- Patrol responded to 7 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrols responded to 2 Alarm Ringing calls.
- Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance.
- Officers performed 8 Welfare Checks.
- A woman came to WSPD headquarters to report she had been in a verbal argument with one of her coworkers, who then spit in her face. The victim had already reported the incident to her supervisor.
- An officer attempted to pull over a vehicle on Indian Church Rd. It took off at a high rate of speed, continuing onto Seneca St. The pursuit was quickly terminated, but officers continued to watch the vehicle as it sped away down Seneca St. into the City of Buffalo, saw its brake lights come on, and heard a crash. Officers then proceeded to the crash site and found the vehicle empty and beginning to catch fire. One officer observed a pistol on the passenger side of the vehicle. It was removed and made safe before the scene was turned over to Buffalo Police and Fire.
- A Lein Rd. resident reported he had allowed contractors who were paving his neighbor’s driveway to park their equipment on his driveway, and now, his driveway was damaged. The contracting company agreed to make any needed repairs.
- A Charlescrest Ct. resident reported he has been receiving harassing phone calls from a former childhood friend he hasn’t seen or spoken to since 1977; the subject is swearing at the complainant and threatening to “get even when he least expects.”
- An Edson St. resident reported she witnessed her neighbor pick up some of the complainant’s dog’s feces, and deposit in on the complainant’s porch steps, as well as smearing some of it on the complainant’s mother’s car. The two have an ongoing neighbor dispute between them.
- A passerby reported there was a large banner with expletives displayed outside a Chamberlin Dr. address. The resident agreed to take it down.
- A Crownland Cir. resident reported she was the victim of identity theft. An unknown suspect obtained her personal information, filed a tax return in her name and received her federal refund. She is now unable to obtain her refund from the IRS.
- An AMR ambulance crew reported a person was “playing chicken” with passing cars on Center Rd. Police searched the area, but were unable to locate any such person.
Wednesday 3/17/21: Total Complaints = 92
- Patrol responded to 10 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrols responded to 1 Alarm Ringing call.
- Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance.
- Officers performed 3 Welfare Checks.
- A Dirkson Ave. resident reported she was the victim of fraud. An unknown suspect has been using her account on a “virtual layaway” app to make purchases.
- Police received a report of a male screaming at a female in the parking lot of Market in the Square. Officers checked the plaza, but were unable to locate the subjects.
- A man called police, stating there was a guy at West Middle School walking his dog and not picking up the dog’s poop. The complainant stated he’d wait for officers in his car. When police arrived at the school, there was no one around. The subject later contacted police stating he had been picking up after his dog, and that the complainant had threatened to fight him if he didn’t “follow the law.” The two “faced off,” but no punches were thrown.
- A Barnsdale Ave. resident reported her car was “egged,” and she suspected a friend with whom she recently had a disagreement was responsible. After washing the egg off, she discovered damage to the paint.
- A 20-year-old Buffalo woman was arrested, following a traffic stop on Seneca St. An officer observed the woman not wearing her seat belt. Her vehicle’s registration was suspended. She was released on summonses charging her with Operating While Registration Suspended, Operating Without Insurance and No Seat Belt. The license plates were confiscated, and the car was towed.
- A complainant reported seeing a group of youths carrying boxes and mattresses into the fields behind Clinton Elementary School. The youths were building a fort; they were advised to take it down and remove the items from the school’s property.
- Police responded to a Duchess Dr. address for a report of a missing 3-year-old girl. Officers, detectives and neighbors searched the neighborhood, and eventually located the child hiding in the garage of her home.
- A Lackawanna woman reported she was the victim of a hit-and-run. She was turning out of the Laundry Lounge onto Ridge Rd. when her vehicle was struck by an unknown gray two-door sedan, which then took off.
- A group of youths were reported to be “trashing” Tim Russert Park. Responding officers found the youths playing football. The park was clean.
- A Woodward Dr. resident reported there was an unknown teenaged male behind his garage. The teen was cutting through the yards to meet a friend on Treehaven Rd.
- Police received a report of a suspicious person looking into the windows of Home Away From Home Kennels. Officers reviewed video from the property, which showed the subject looking at the business hours posted on the door.
- A Robin Ln. resident called police, stating there was a female on his property taking videos of him and threatening him. Officers located the subject, who was out walking her dog, was not on the complainant’s property and had not made any threats.
- A woman reported her wallet was stolen, after she mistakenly left it at the Orchard Park Rd. TOPS.
Thursday 3/18/21: Total Complaints = 76
- Patrols responded to 11 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrol responded to 1 Alarm Ringing call.
- Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance.
- Officers performed 2 Welfare Checks.
- A 24-year-old Buffalo man was arrested, following a traffic stop on Clinton St. His vehicle’s registration was suspended, and its inspection sticker was also expired. He was released on summonses charging him with Operating While Registration Suspended, Operating Without Insurance and Uninspected Motor Vehicle. The plates were confiscated and the car was towed.
- Patrols were called to Duerstein St. for a neighbor dispute, over parking. The neighbors were able to come to a resolution.
- A Sloan woman turned herself in to WSPD, on an outstanding warrant for Petit Larceny and Identity Theft in the 3rd Degree.
- An employee of Glaub’s Collision reported he had observed a suspect going through a customer’s vehicle on the business’ lot. Nothing had been taken. After reviewing surveillance video, it was determined that the person who entered the vehicle was its owner.
- A Langner Rd. resident reported a suspicious female was sitting in her car on the road, that she’d been there before and usually sits in one place for an hour or two. When officers arrived, the vehicle was empty. A tow truck arrived; the car’s owner had called for it because the car was having a mechanical malfunction.
- Two witnesses reported a white minivan struck a couple of signposts at the intersection of Union and Seneca Creek Rds., and took off westbound down Clinton St. Officers were able to make contact with the mother of vehicle’s registered owner, who stated she would have him call WSPD.
Friday 3/19/21: Total Complaints = 86
- Patrols responded to 15 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrol responded to 2 Alarm Ringing calls.
- Police responded to 1 Domestic Disturbance.
- Officers performed 1 Welfare Check.
- Employees of the Harlem Rd. TOPS reported there were four or five teenaged boys outside the store, refusing to leave, after the store had closed for the night. The kids had been picked up from a game at the sports complex around the corner and were looking to buy a few items. They were sent on their way.
- A 25-year-old Buffalo man was arrested for drunk driving, following a traffic stop at Crosby’s. An officer observed a vehicle with a brake light out; it didn’t signal when it turned into the gas station. The car smelled strongly of marijuana; the officer observed a “blunt” and an open bottle of Cognac in the center console and an empty bottle of Hennessy on the floorboard. The driver was visibly intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. He refused to participate in field sobriety tests or provide a breath sample. The man was charged with DWI, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 4th Degree, one count each of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Degrees, and several traffic infractions, and released to a sober friend.
- A school bus driver reported that a man in a red pickup truck makes sexual gestures at her and other female bus drivers, during student pickup and drop-off each day at West Elementary School.
- The principal of Winchester Elementary School reported two identified juveniles were captured on video surveillance vandalizing the sidewalk, removing signage from the school and throwing rocks at the building.
- A private investigator working in the Seneca St. area reported a man walked up to his car, saying, “I’m a gangster and I’m going to murder you.” Patrols advised the neighbors a PI was working in the area, and not to confront him.
- Officers responded to Feel Rite for a report of customer trouble. A group of customers were inside, refusing to wear masks. They ultimately agreed to leave the store.
- Police responded to a report of a suspicious male at Buffalo Creek Commons, looking into vehicles and trying to light items on fire near the dumpster. As officers approached, they observed the man had a pistol in his hand. The subject was ordered to drop the gun, complied, and was placed in handcuffs without incident. The pistol turned out to be a BB gun. The man was released.
- A woman came to WSPD headquarters stating she was receiving phone calls and text messages from an unknown person/number, saying the person was going to “slit her throat” and she “better run.”
- An employee of the Olive Branch reported she got into a physical altercation with another employee. The incident was captured on the business’ video surveillance. The victim was advised how to pursue harassment charges, if she wishes to do so.
Saturday 3/13/21: Total Complaints = 87
- Patrols responded to 9 First Aid Assistance calls.
- Patrol responded to 2 Alarm Ringing calls.
- Officers performed 5 Welfare Checks.
- A 34-year-old Tonawanda woman was arrested, following a traffic stop on Ridge Rd. An officer observed a vehicle merge off the 219 and change lanes without signaling. The driver’s license was found to be suspended. She was released on summonses charging her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree, Illegal Signal, and Improper Right Turn.
- A 30-year-old Lackawanna man was arrested for drunk driving, following a traffic stop on Ridge Rd. An officer observed a vehicle weaving between lanes and crossing the double yellow line multiple times. The driver failed field sobriety tests and registered a .140% BAC on a preliminary breath test. He was charged with DWI, Moved From Lane Unsafely and Driving Left of Pavement Markings, and released to a sober friend.
- Wegmans loss prevention employees reported intercepting a shoplifter, who then fled in a vehicle. The woman passed all points of purchase with over $500 in merchandise, but abandoned her cart in the parking lot when confronted. She got into a blue BMW, driven by a male, and they took off. Surveillance video will be used to identify the subjects.
- Employees at Petco reported a male customer threatened them, after they told him he needed to wear a mask in the store. Officers located the man at the soccer complex, and advised him he is no longer welcome at Petco.
- A Tudor Blvd. resident reported unknown suspect(s) threw eggs and rocks at his house, cracking the siding.
- Police received a report of a suspicious male in yellow and black pajama pants at Southgate Plaza, wandering around and flailing his arms. He was gone when officers arrived. A little over an hour later, the same male was reported to be at Towne Laundry on Center Rd., pacing in and out of the laundromat. He stated he was walking to “clear his thoughts,” and was advised to head home.
- A Marseille Ave. resident called 911, stating she was afraid of a male friend she’d invited over to her house. The two had been drinking, and the subject then refused to leave. He was picked up by his sister.
