Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of James Meehan, Jr. of Versailles, New York, following an investigation into a burglary at the North Collins Community Bank on Christmas.
On December 25 at approximately 4:50 a.m., Deputies responded to reports of a break-in at the bank on Main Street in the Village of North Collins. Deputies observed the glass on two entrance doors smashed and lights on in the lobby.
The incident was turned over to Detectives, and a social media campaign to identify the suspect was initiated on December 29. Detectives identified the suspect after receiving multiple tips from the public. Following the posts and media release, the New York State Police located James Meehan, Jr. and interviewed him at the Collins barracks.
The Sheriff’s Office and the state police conducted a joint interview, and Meehan provided a written statement about the North Collins burglary.
The Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged 24-year-old Meehan with felony counts of burglary-3rd and criminal mischief-3rd as well as a misdemeanor count of petit larceny.
