The Numbers Are In!
The New York State Police today announced that it issued more than 26,000 tickets during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative.
This year’s enforcement period ran nine days and encompassed two consecutive weekends compared to 2021 when the detail ran for five days, encompassing just one weekend.
The campaign began on Friday, March 11, 2022, and continued until Sunday, March 20, 2022.
During the campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the New York State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and underage drinking and sales to minors detail. State Police also ticketed distracted drivers who use handheld electronic devices.
State Troopers arrested 381 people for DWI and investigated 1,663 crashes, which resulted in 243 people being injured and two fatalities.
As part of the enforcement, Troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the State. Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued.

During last year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period, the State Police issued 19,599 tickets and arrested 299 people for DWI.
