State Police Issue More Than 13,600 Tickets During Memorial Day Weekend Traffic Enforcement.

The New York State Police today announced that it issued a total of 13,688 tickets statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend traffic enforcement campaign.


The special enforcement period began at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, and ran through 3 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.


During the campaign, which was partially funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices.


Troopers arrested 213 people for DWI and investigated 808 crashes, including 142 personal injury crashes and eight fatal crashes, which killed eight people.


As part of the enforcement, Troopers targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state. Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued.

  • Speeding 3,562

  • Distracted Driving 395

  • Seatbelt violations 3,179

  • Move Over Law 94


During last year’s Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign, which ran from Friday, May 28, 2021 , through Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the State Police issued 14,249 total tickets and arrested 185 people for DWI.
