NF Police arrest man in connection with string of violent crimes in City

(Niagara Falls, New York – May 5, 2022) Niagara Falls Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with multiple violent incidents over the past several days.

NFPD Criminal Investigation Detectives and the Patrol Division charged 21-year-old Niagara Falls resident Rohmelo K. Lewis for his involvement in the incidents listed below:

At approximately 6:26 A.M. on Tuesday, May 3rd, in the area of 1425 Main Street, a 21-year-old male was assaulted and robbed by a suspect armed with a gun. The victim was struck over the head with the weapon, resulting in a laceration. The suspect stole property which included a phone, electronics, and money.


On May 4th at approximately 3:10 A.M., a victim stated he was robbed at gunpoint in the 900 block of Main Street. The victim stated after the suspect pointed a gun at him and stole the victim’s backpack, which contained tools, the suspect fired several shots at him as the victim ran away from the scene.


On May 5th, just before 1:00 A.M., a victim reported he was robbed of cash and his phone when he was accosted in the 1300 block of Main Street. The victim reported he was struck over the head with a gun the suspect was carrying. The victim was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Lewis is now facing the following charges in connection with the above incidents:


(2) counts of Robbery 1st degree

(3) counts of Robbery 2nd degree

(2) counts of Assault 2nd degree

(1) count of Menacing 2nd degree

(1) count of Reckless Endangerment 1st degree

(1) count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree




Niagara Falls Police Superintendent John Faso praised his department following the arrest, saying, “I commend Captain John Conti, the NFPD Criminal Investigation Division, and all Niagara Falls Police Officers for their non-stop, around-the-clock work to bring this suspect into custody. These men and women spend countless hours tracking down every lead in order to keep our city safe.”

Mayor Robert Restaino echoed the Superintendent’s sentiments, adding, “I applaud the tireless efforts of the Niagara Falls Police Department to make an arrest in this string of violent crimes. This is a shining example of the dedication the men and women of the Niagara Falls Police Department have to keeping our neighborhoods safe and free of crime. Let this be a message to everyone: These heinous, violent acts will not be tolerated in our city.”


Lewis was arraigned in Niagara Falls City Court on May 5th. Bail was set at $1.75 million cash, $3.5 million property. Lewis is due back in court on May 10th.

The investigations into other incidents, including the homicide that occurred on May 5th, are continuing and additional charges are anticipated.
