Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that an intoxicated 16-year-old Clarence student was arrested after she physically assaulted Deputy Vogl outside of a school social function Friday evening.

During the event, a teacher asked a uniformed Deputy working the event to assist with ejecting an intoxicated student. The Deputy observed signs of intoxication and detected a strong odor of alcohol as they attempted to move the student to an anteroom. At this time the female student ran from the Deputy and exited the school building.

Deputy Vogl spotted the subject and attempted to detain her but the student resisted and struck Deputy Vogl with a closed fist. Deputy Day arrived at the scene to provide assistance and placed the intoxicated female into custody.

The 16-year-old female was charged with a felony count of assaulting an officer, misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, false personation, and obstructing governmental administration. She was also charged with harassment and disorderly conduct and later taken to the holding center. The subject was released later that night and she faces future court proceedings in Clarence.

Deputy Vogl sustained some facial and upper body injuries and is expected to be back working soon.
