Erie County Sheriff’s Office Arrest 2 Following Narcotics Investigation.

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces the arrests of 27-year-old Luis Bonilla of Depew and 23-year-old Onyx Jones of Buffalo on drug-related charges following a week-long investigation.

On May 25, Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit Deputies and Buffalo Police Department’s Narcotics and Intel members arrested Bonilla in a parking lot at 2634 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo. When Sheriff’s Deputies approached Bonilla’s vehicle, they observed what appeared to be a drug transaction. Bonilla’s flee attempt was halted, and he was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle discovered loaded 9mm and 5.7mm handguns as well as over 20-ounces of cocaine and U.S currency.

Later that day, Deputies traveled to Bonilla’s residence on Claudette Court in the Village of Depew to execute a search warrant signed by Judge Kenneth Case. Upon arrival, Deputies observed individuals removing a suitcase and a box from Bonilla’s residence and placing the containers into a vehicle.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on George Urban Boulevard and impounded the vehicle after a Sheriff’s narcotics detection K9 alerted on the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded pending further investigation.

While searching Bonilla’s residence, law enforcement officers discovered another loaded 5.7 mm handgun, various drug paraphernalia, and more U.S. currency.

On May 26, Sheriff’s personnel executed an additional search warrant on the impounded vehicle. Deputies recovered an additional kilo of cocaine, a cocaine press, a scale, and ammunition. After the vehicle’s search, Onyx Jones was arrested.

Luis Bonilla’s charges:

  • A felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance;

  • A felony count of criminal possession of a narcotic with intent to sell;

  • Two felony counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm;

  • A felony count of criminal possession of a weapon;

  • A misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance;

  • Two misdemeanor counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Onyx Jones’ charges:

  • A felony count of criminal possession of narcotics;

  • A felony count of criminal possession of a narcotic with intent to sell;

  • Two misdemeanor counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Both defendants were remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.

Bonilla was arraigned in Buffalo City Court and released on May 26 on $50,000.00 bail. Later, he was arraigned in Village of Depew Court and was released.

Jones has a future arraignment date in Village of Depew Court and remains in custody at the Erie County Holding Center.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into this narcotics operation and anticipates additional arrests.
