Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies Coulombe and Okal were dispatched to the Niagara River, near Strawberry Island, on June 5 around 5:50 P.M. for jet skiers in distress.
When the Marine Unit came upon the personal watercraft, one individual was on the island, and another was in the water near the vessel. The Deputies retrieved the individual where the Deputies placed him in the cabin and checked for hypothermia. The individual on the island waded to the Sheriff’s boat, and both males were taken to shore.
The owner of the personal watercraft was issued tickets for not having the necessary distress signaling devices.
