ECSO Deputy Saves Inmate From Attempted Suicide.

Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports that a deputy assigned to the Erie County Holding Center prevented an inmate from committing suicide in their housing cell on Friday, September 23, 2022.

At approximately 8:37 a.m., a deputy was making their rounds in a housing unit when they observed an incarcerated individual lying face down with a piece of linen tied around their neck. The deputy immediately radioed for assistance and cut the linen free.

Medical personnel with the Division of Correctional Health arrived and began evaluating and treating the individual. The individual was conscious, and their vital signs were stable when they were transported to an area hospital by ambulance.
