ECHC Deputy Attacked While Collecting Clean Up Gear.


Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports a deputy was attacked and injured by an incarcerated individual on September 15, 2022, while collecting clean up gear at the Erie County Holding Center.

 

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Deputy Christopher Myers arrived at incarcerated individual Stephen Watkin’s cell to collect clean up gear. Watkins exited his housing unit and refused the deputy’s orders to lock back in his cell. Inmate Watkins became combative, a struggle ensued and Deputy Myers was shoved over the common area table and fell to the floor landing on his left shoulder. Watkins continued fighting and was ultimately subdued by deputies. 

 

Deputy Myers sustained a dislocated shoulder and was treated at the Erie County Medical Center.

 

Watkins is charged with Assault on a Peace Officer, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Menacing 3rd degree.

 

The incarcerated individual is held at the holding center without bail on a Robbery charge from a January 2022 arrest.
