The Firefighters of the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Company in Cheektowaga will lay to rest one of their own, Commissioner and past Chief Michael Rusiniak, at 9 am tomorrow, Monday, March 29.
Michael was a third-generation Fire Chief. His grandfather, Stanley Rusiniak, was Bellevue’s first Chief in 1948, and his father, Richard, served as Chief from 1964 to 1972.
Michael joined Bellevue when he was 18 and was Chief from 1992 to 1998. He was elected a Fire District Commissioner in 1999 and held that position until his passing.
Mike was a well-respected member of the WNY volunteer firefighter community. Numerous firefighting vehicles will take part in tomorrow’s procession, and a memorial display will be established in front of the Bellevue Fire Department, 511 Como Park Boulevard.
The funeral procession will depart from the Melvin J. Sliwinski Funeral Home, 5090 Transit Road, at approximately 9:20 am, and proceed west on Como Park Boulevard past the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department.
The procession will also pass the Cheektowaga Highway Garage at 3175 Union Road, where Michael worked as a mechanic,before making the final stop at Resurrection Church at 130 Como Park Blvd.
Michael’s family and friends encourage others to be #belikemike and join their local fire companies as a way to serve their community as well as honor Michael’s life and dedication to duty.
