Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announces the arrest of Franklin and Toya Richards of Amherst following a several-month investigation by the Narcotics and Intelligence Unit.
In the afternoon of June 29, Franklin was observed leaving the residence and was later taken into custody following a traffic stop. After the traffic stop, the Narcotics and Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant signed by Judge Case at 40 Brittany Drive in the Town of Amherst.
Within the dwelling, Deputies and Detectives recovered three kilos of cocaine, one kilo of fentanyl, ½ kilo of methamphetamine, and a quantity of ecstasy. Also recovered was a large amount of packing materials, mixing substances, and other drug paraphernalia items.
40-year-old Franklin and 43-year-old Toya were arrested and each charged with two class-A felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance – 8 ounces or more of a narcotic, a class-B felony of criminal possession of a controlled substance 2nd – methamphetamine, a class-B felony of criminal possession of a narcotic with intent to sell, and a class-B felony for criminal possession of a narcotic. They are also charged with a class-A misdemeanor for criminal possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
Toya Richards was arraigned and released on July 6 after posting $200,000.00 bail. Franklin Richards is remanded to the Erie County Holding Center without bail and on a U.S. Marshal detainer.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Narcotics and Intelligence Unit learned that the couple was trafficking narcotics throughout Erie County.
